The Streets of North Berwick

As I write this, it’s been 5 days since completing the 500 miles. And although it feels a little late to be writing this, it’s nice to drop myself back into the final stages without the crescendo of the finish line in front of me.

Whilst I had planned on my penultimate walk being around and up Arthur’s Seat I knew I’d probably have to squeeze an additional walk in to get the mileage bang on. What I hadn’t quite anticipated was the additional requirement being 12 miles. So, rather than drag mum on a 12 mile slog, I decided to split it 6 and 6. We agreed on a walk that had flickered into my head on a couple of occasions entitled ‘The Streets of North Berwick’ (an ode to ‘The Streets of Edinburgh by the Proclaimers which a good friend had shot the video for).

The 3 of us (mum, Shirley NB and me) set off along the High Street and down to the harbour. The objective was to walk the perimeter of the town and try to see it from a different angle. So after an icy cold walk along the East Beach we headed up to Lime Grove, had a nose around the new estate at Tesco, headed along Lochbridge to the school and cut through the new estate at the back of the school before a final loop through the Cala houses and back along Fidra Road to home.

I don’t think there’s anybody who lives in North Berwick who doesn’t love it. And whilst it was interesting to see the new developments in the town, I am still a fan of the classic angle myself. But there’s nothing as guaranteed in life as change…
