The Forth Road Bridge

This one was a walk for the mums, by the mums. Mimi, mum and I decided to treat ourselves to a Mother’s Day walk across the Forth Road Bridge (one of dad’s favourite places). It didn’t feel quite like a treat to begin with as the temperature had dropped and the wind whipped up – a contrast to my walk in Woodhall Dean the day before.

However, the engineering of the bridge itself, the views to the Rail Bridge and the new Crossing were enough of a beautiful distraction to keep us moving.

It felt quite surreal crossing the Road Bridge as in my head it’s packed with traffic as it always used to be. However, with the arrival of the new Queensferry Crossing, only buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians are now allowed to cross. Which makes for a nicer walk but the additional space does add to the strange sense of vertigo.

After dodging a few irate cyclists who seemed determined to ignore the fact that there’s a virus knocking about so pedestrians might just need a little space, we reached the other side and made our way down into North Queensferry. We took a bit of a break (and scoffed some Lindt chocolates) down at the harbour. The sun poked through the clouds and stayed with us most of the way back across the bridge to home.
