Turnhouse Hill

After the challenge of finding a parking space at Flotterstone was complete, we set off to take on the next obvious challenge staring us in the face – the climb up Turnhouse Hill. Not the highest of the Pentlands but still a short, sharp, steep ascent. We took it in stages and stopped part way up to take in the view and locate our breath.

The arrival at the top of the hill was made all the more exhilarating by the strong cross winds which threatened to blow us back off. We managed to find a path (pretty sure it was a mountain bike trail so had to keep an eye over one shoulder) to take us down to the sheltered gully of Glencorse reservoir. And after a few mis-steps along the way found a quiet bench to enjoy the view and a quick snack. Only to be attacked head on, at full speed by a very large swan who was obviously trained to detect food on that particular bench. Time to move on…

The distance v achievement on this walk feels a little deceptive given that a large part of it was a vertical climb. And given that we managed to put the world to rights, it was a couple of miles well spent.
