We were beaten by the snow on this walk the last time we attempted it. And we don’t like to be beaten. So off we set to tackle it again.
What a difference the weather makes. With the final traces of snow on the ground it took us 30 minutes to travel what took us around 2 hours the last time. It was an eerily still day with not a trace of wind, the sky was low and cloudy and the landscape vast and sprawling. It felt reflective of our general state of mind at the moment – flat, low and seemingly endless.
This feeling was accentuated by the walk traversing through the spookily silent Crystal Rig Wind Farm (apart from the squeaking one which sounded like it was about to fall apart above us).
Nevertheless, we managed as ever to spice things up with good chat, a few ford jumps, muddy scrambles, ravine traverses and fence climbs before we made it back to the car.
