Glencorse & Allermuir Hill

We set off today without a clear path in mind which was a liberating feeling after so many ‘official’ routes. We were in the Pentlands and there were about 1000 other people there so the chances of losing ourselves was slim…

It was another of those stop and gasp at the view days. We started the walk heading around Glencorse Reservoir (can’t believe I have lived in Edinburgh for 49 years and never been there) before veering up the hill to take in the view from above. The sheep graced us with their rear ends as part of it. Then we decided to head a bit off piste for some space from the ‘other people’ – how sad really that this has become our norm. Nevertheless it was lovely to be in an open space with nobody around, even if it was pretty boggy. Before we knew it we found ourselves half way to the top of Allermuir Hill so figured we’d finish it off. And were rewarded with panoramic views across the city. We tried to find space amongst the other 50 people who’d made it to the top before heading back down to the pleasure of a quiet off track route which wiggled us back to base.

One of the biggest joys of this journey has been sharing adventures to beautiful places with some of my favourite people in the world. Thanks for sharing today with me K. X
