With the prospect of Christmas fast approaching, the need to escape and take a deep breath to steady myself was overwhelming.
So Jonathan and I took an early morning trip back out to the Lammermuir hills, arriving as the sun was coming up.
Parking at Whiteadder Reservoir, we headed off up the old Herring Road – the route the fisherwomen of Dunbar used to take to carry their fish to market over into the Borders. The road wiggled up the side of the hills until we reached the crest of Priestlaw Hill with views back down across the reservoir. Then it was back down again and round edges of the reservoir, past Priestlaw Farm and some interesting coloured sheep.
Am pretty sure the kids hadn’t even made it out of bed by the time we returned…
