Stage 7 – South Queensferry to Edinburgh (part 2)

Given that this part of the John Muir Way walk cuts through Corstorphine and finishes up at the front door of the very first house I ever lived in, it felt appropriate to walk part of it with mum.

Was a walk with lots of memories and things I’d never seen before. From the Cramond Brig (which I always thought was just the name of a pub but actually refers to the historic bridge at the back of it), through the back roads of Barnton (which I’ve never nosed around before), up and over Corstorphine Hill (used to come sledging here) and down the other side past the Zebras in the zoo (they looked sad). Then it was down past a very silent Murrayfield Stadium to Saughton Park for a peer through the fence at the old Edinburgh Athletic Club running track where Graeme, dad and I spent years running in circles. Then a climb up on to the Slateford Aqueduct (2 aqueducts in a week and one in the middle of Edinburgh – who knew) and along the Union Canal to Fountainbridge. Across Bruntsfield and through the Meadows (past the back of the Castle and Simpsons where I was born) to Hope Park Crescent and our old front door.

100 mile mark reached.
