This walk felt a little like coming on to home turf. Growing up in the West of Edinburgh, South Queensferry feels familiar and was somewhere I spent a bit of time with my dad, particularly in recent years.
After an up-hill walk out of Linlithgow across the fields and through the majestic woodland of Kinneil House, it was on to the foreshore of the Firth of Forth. Skirting around the back of Bo’ness, then along to Blackness Castle. I’d never visited Blackness before – beautiful little castle known as the ‘ship that never sailed’ because from the sea it looks like a ship that’s run aground. Then through the grounds of the Hopetoun House (where we used to visit with our school) full of sheep and deer and under the bridges into South Queensferry. Finished off in Scotts with muddy boots and a cake with mum.
